Two Tips To Finding the Right Conference for You

Now, some of you may know this already, but I love leveraging conferences to acquire new leads and build my audience. Conferences are typically a great way to build awareness around who you are, be visible in your business, and get in front of a new audience because folks are coming from many different places and you have the opportunity to expand your reach.

Now I know what you’re thinking, “If conferences are so great, how do we get in on them?” You’ll first need to determine what conference you’d like to be a part of, and then you’ll need to send a proposal.

Finding the right conference far enough in advance to submit a proposal can be daunting, but I encourage you to start with a good old Google Search. You’ll want to ensure that you’re using very intentional search terms that will be influenced by your target audience.

Once you’re clear on your target audience, I would encourage you to search for a professional organization within that scope. For example, if your target client is principals, you need to be on the website for the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). Right there are two professional organizations for school leaders that hold conferences.

For a broader search, you can also start by looking for articles that list the top 100, 50, or 20 education conferences. Those articles can act as a master list of conferences and from there you can conduct more research to determine which conferences would be best for you to attend and/or send a proposal to.

Don’t underestimate the power of a conference, because you never know who could be in the audience. Attendees are often looking and listening out for the person that they want to bring back to their school or district.

If conferences are  something that are of interest to you, then you’ll want to do your research on upcoming conferences that are accepting proposals, and start submitting proposals!
