3 Top Tips for Marketing In a Virtual World

Since the pandemic has essentially shifted the reality of our world, many aspiring and seasoned consultants alike have asked the question: how does this rapid and extreme change impact how we should be marketing now? I’ve come up with the top three things I think you should focus one when you develop and implement your marketing strategy for your business.

  1. Consistency- You have to be consistent in your marketing. Regardless of what your marketing strategy is, you have got to be consistent. This is where you really want to think about what you can actually show up consistently for with your marketing strategy.

There are plenty of marketing options like social media, email marketing, websites, podcasts and blogs. Each of these are great options, so choose one that you know without a doubt you can be consistent with, given your strengths.

  2. Choose a Strategy You Enjoy- When you’re just starting out, you likely won’t have an entire marketing team. Which means any marketing strategy you implement, you’re going to be the one creating, posting, and engaging your audience with the content. So, your best bet for success is to choose a strategy that you actually enjoy.

If social media doesn’t get you fired up and actually feels overwhelming to you, then that may not be the marketing strategy for you. If you enjoy writing, then think about a weekly blog post that you share with an email list. If you enjoy showing up and being in front of the camera and talking to people, maybe webinars or Facebook/IG Lives might be your strategy.

Whatever you choose, make sure it is something that gives you joy and lights you up. Because whatever strategy you pick in order to be consistent with it, you’ve got to enjoy it!

  3. Tell Your Story- A large part of getting clients is building trust with them. A great way to do that is to tell your audience why you’re working to solve the problem you’re focused on. You can tell them about your experience and your impact on the solution. If you’ve done this work before or have even already had clients before, use their reactions or positive experiences as testimonials.

Maybe you're your own testimonial and that’s fine too! Just ensure that you tell your story through whatever marketing strategy you choose. Whether you pick a blog, social media, webinars, or podcast, tell the story. Stories are what connect people, so walk people through your journey and be really clear with your impact, because that's what's going to build trust with your audience.
