How Do I Promote My Webinar?

Now, before we get into the nitty gritty of this topic, I want to touch on the mindset work you need to center and tackle when you're moving into promoting your webinar. You'll hear me say this often, but you have to be comfortable taking up space and putting yourself out there. When I say that, I mean you have to be comfortable talking about your gifts, your talents, and your business (because how is anyone going to know about it if you don’t?) 

Oftentimes we get into this line of thinking that sounds something like “Well, I don't know if I want to post this on my personal profile because it's personal. I should probably only stick to talking about my business on my business account…right?” Wrong! When I think about promoting my webinars and my business, I have to gain some clarity to step into the mindset needed to really effectively promote my webinar. To do that, I just think about if I were to lose my job tomorrow, what would I do? Because that's when the spirit of just making ‘ish happen comes out! Just think, if I lost my source of income tomorrow, I'm not going to be shy about my webinar because: 

  1. I know I'm going to give a quality product. 

  2. I know that I need to build a steady stream of revenue and I have quality services and offerings that are going to help impact people while I'm also building a steady revenue stream in my business.

You’ve got to be comfortable taking up space and, and, and you’ve got to be consistent and frequent with your messaging. Now, you're going to have to be consistent and frequent with your messaging because, as human beings we consume so much information during the day that we actually need repeated interactions with information in order to process and internalize it, before making a decision. 

For example, for my folks who are iPhone users, you know that we get these notifications on Sundays telling us how much screen time we’ve had on our phone. And every time I get the notification I'm like, "Hold on, how many hours have I been on my phone each day!?" Because it's always something like seven hours, which for me feels mind blowing! And I know in reality, the majority of that time it's either email or on social media. Sometimes it's a little bit of reading, but most of the time it is scrolling social media and checking my email.

So, putting that into context, even though my weekly report says that I’m scrolling on my phone at least seven hours a day, I can't even begin to tell you what I saw on social media because I've been bombarded with so much information that if somebody posted about a webinar, I can't remember who posted it, when it’s being held, or anything substantial that would actually get me to the webinar. 

That’s why you need to be promoting your webinar consistently and frequently. And to plan a strategy that doesn’t stress you out, you’ll need to think through first what your marketing channels are, and then how you can leverage scheduling tools to promote on a consistent and frequent schedule. 

Marketing channels could be your website, social media, and your email list (if you have one) to start. It could also be a partner or affiliate that’s helping you share your message to their own audience.

So there's tons of different strategies of how to promote your webinar and you just have to decide which one is most aligned to your strengths and which one you can be most consistent and frequent with. Some people pull the social media lever by consistently sharing on social media and posting about their webinar multiple times. 

If social media is your strategy, you should be posting every day and you should be posting in different ways. A couple of examples of different posts can be:

  • A flyer/image advertising the webinar

  • A post with a story related to the topic of your webinar, and at the end of your caption extend an invitation for your audience to join your webinar. So more than just, here's a flyer showing that I'm having this webinar, but tell people stories along the way.

  • Going live and talking about your experience with the problem you’re solving and discussing in your webinar, as well as the different solutions you’ve experimented with. 

  • IG and/or Facebook Stories are a great way to direct people to sign up with your webinar that aren’t just a static IG post or image. 

I want you to think about these options when promoting, because there are so many different ways to promote on social media, and you’re going to want to leverage as many as you can find. If you only post once a day, assume that’s enough, and then are shocked when you don’t get the turnout you expected for your webinar, you’ll really need to think about why that is. People need to see things multiple times to finally go “Oh yeah, they’re hosting a webinar, I saw them post about it yesterday, let me go sign up…” I don’t want you in an underperforming webinar because I know you’re amazing, so remember: post consistently and frequently

I’ve created a rule for myself: If I have a webinar and I personally don't feel like I'm flooding people with it, then my promotion isn't right. The reality is that if it doesn’t feel like I’m flooding people with it, I’m actually not creating enough touchpoints for my audience to see me. When it feels like a lot for me, that’s when I know I’m in the sweet spot. Think about it, unless people are avid fans of your work and going to your page every time they open their favorite social media app, they’re likely missing a good percentage of your posts and lives anyway. I mean, have you ever gotten to the end of your endless social media scroll? Nope. It’s the same with email, people on your list may or may not have opened the email. 

This is exactly why I post and go live and email consistently and frequently, because everyone has different habits, everyone is in a different timezone, everyone engages with social media and emails differently. That’s why you need to create as many touchpoints as possible when promoting your webinar. 

I hope this gives you some clarity and starting points in terms of promoting your webinar. Remember, you’ve got to do the mindset work and get comfortable with taking up space. Then, clarify which marketing avenue you’re going to use to promote your webinar, and finally (and most importantly) you’ve got to do what? (all together now 😉) Post consistently and frequently. If you don't feel like you're doing too much, then you're not doing enough.
