3 Tips On Creating An Effective Social Media Strategy
Before we dig into these tips, I need you to be crystal clear on where social media sits in your marketing strategy. Some people do social media just to do social media, not to drive people towards their business. Nothing wrong with it either way, but you need to know where on the totem pole, social media sits, when it comes to driving people towards your business.
#1 - Live Content
I can feel you cringing through the screen, but if social media is part of your marketing strategy, you need live content. Point, blank, period. If you’re on Instagram for instance, I’m not saying you have to do reels, but you need to be visible. People need to hear and see you. People do not buy from ghosts.
The first is you need to have some type of live content, point blank period. So if you're on Instagram, I'm not saying you have to do Reels, but I'm saying people need to hear you and see you. People do not buy from ghosts.
Now I hear you, you don’t wanna be out here doing the dances and lip-singing and all that. Well that’s great, because you don’t have to do all that (unless you want to! 😉). The time you spend not wanting to make a reel with a virtual sound could easily be transformed into 30-60 seconds of your sharing a tip with your audience. That’s live content. Yeah, I know. It really is that simple.
You could also go Live on IG. If you’ve already done and recorded a webinar, you could glean a few quotable moments or helpful tips and repost them. That’s live content too. When I say live, I don’t mean you’re streaming live every second you’ve got something to say. There’s nothing wrong with pulling prerecorded moments. When I say live, I mean people get to see and hear you. They get to know that the user behind the account is an actual person. That goes a very long way towards building a relationship of trust with your audience.
#2 - Content Pillars
The second strategy here in terms of what to post or what to talk about when you go live is this: content pillars. We talk about this in Get LaunchED Consulting™️ and it’s actually called a framework. One of the many purposes and values of a framework is to provide you with a roadmap to develop your content with.
Now you don’t have to have a framework. You could just pick content pillars. Your core values could be content pillars. But my approach to it is to have a level of alignment in your business, which is why your content pillars live in your framework.
#3 - Call To Action (CTA)
The last piece here is you need to have a clear call to action. So this is where I see a lot of folks fumble the bag and this is what I meant when I said that people can do social media without a clear strategy.
If you’re building this presence and audience on social media, but have nowhere to direct people who want to continue to learn about you or work with you…then your social media isn’t a part of your marketing strategy.
Your CTA is giving people directions. You literally need to tell your audience what to do and you need to be crystal clear about it. If you want them to sign up for something, you have to tell them, "Go sign up for this thing." If you want people to book a call, you have to tell people, "Book a call with me." So whatever the next step is, or whatever the call to action is, you need to be really clear with that in your social media.
