3 Things That Got Me To My First Six-Figure Month

So I had a six-figure month in April 2022, and that was one of my first! I wanted to share the three things that got me there, because honestly there are a lot of things that went into this, but without these three things, it would NOT have been possible.

#1: Team

The first thing that got me to my first six-figure month was my team. Now, if you’ve been rocking with me for a while, you know I have a dope team, and you also know that I ain’t running myself (or my team) ragged to make money.

That doesn’t mean me and my team don’t work hard, but we ain’t taking ourselves out of the game by overworking. Some people will tell you that you can hit six-figures without a team. I would ask those people how much sleep they're getting? Or how much they're paying themselves versus their expenses? Or what their profit margin is? I would ask them, do they eat lunch? I would ask them what time they get up in the morning? I would ask them intentional, "Tell me about your day," questions. Because if you are running a business that is bringing in six-figures a month and you don't have a team, you are probably tired, exhausted, and running yourself ragged.

I personally can be exhausted at a 9-5, so I have no interest in being exhausted in my business. Especially when I am the boss and I can control that.

#2: Money Mindset

Money mindset and mind trash is something I talk about a lot with my clients and dig into at my live event as well. The reality is, that you need to explore your relationship with money if you want to bring more money into your life. You are going to have to unpack your money mindsets, your mind trash and your beliefs around money, because all of those things are going to show up on your journey. If you’re not ready to fight those mindset blocks, you’re going to leave money on the table.

In the early stages of your business, these mindset blocks usually show up when you’re determining your pricing. When you’re deeper into your business, your mental roadblocks may crop up around whether or not to increase your pricing, introducing new offers and hiring.

You're going to start questioning, “do I really have to spend money on that?” And there are some things where the answer is yes, and you might be thinking of it as an expense when really it’s an investment. You’ll need to have hard conversations with yourself and recognize whether or not fear or mind trash is keeping you from an investment that could 2x, 5x, or 10x your money.

#3: Strategic Planning

This is why I wasn’t surprised when I hit my six-figure month. Strategic planning is the blueprint for my business. I had actually projected that we were going to do $80K for April, and when we hit $80K at week 3, it was just a matter of me and my team putting in place a few more cash injections to push us over the edges into $100K. That is the power of strategic planning.

And here’s the thing, strategic planning in my business is very similar to the planning I did as a principal. This is how I would approach my strategic planning in terms of steps:

  1. Determine my revenue goal for the year

  2. Determine my top 3-5 priorities for the year.

  3. Backwards plan exactly what I need to do quarterly to hit my goals

  4. Backwards plan what I need to do monthly to hit my goals.

  5. Share the vision with the team to ensure we’re all on the same page.

So those are the top 3 things that got me to a six-figure month. I hope this was helpful at whatever stage of your business journey you’re at now!
